CASA Documents

There are many relevant documents on the CASA website but here are a few links for either forms you will need to fill out or documents you may want to familiarise yourself with before you start your training

This is the syllabus for both Private & Commercial licenses. It contains all of the required units of study for the theory components of the license

This is a fantastic publication from CASA that contains detailed and relevant information especially for private pilots. A handy guide that is also well-illustrated.

CASA Forms

Form 1162
Aviation Reference Number application form – you will need an ARN before you are eligible to sit any exams and it is best to get this organised before joining a course provided by HTA although we can help you to organise this

Form 497
Student Pilot License application form. You do not need a student pilot license to sit any examinations but it is always best to get this into the system as soon as you can

Form 498
ASIC application form. You do not need an ASIC card to sit any examinations but it is always best to get this into the system as soon as you can as it requires the Australian Federal Police to do a background check, which can be time consuming.

Form 499
AVID application form.

Airservices Australia
Airservices is a government-owned corporation which provides air traffic control management and related airside services to the aviation industry, including publication of the Aeronautical Information Package which includes AIP, ERSA etc.

Of particular note is the Pilot Briefing Service which provides weather forecasts and other pre-flight briefing information.

ASL is the company approved to deliver CASA Flight Crew examinations. You will need to book your examination through this website. Give yourself a good amount of time and book as far in advance as you feel comfortable with, as the sessions do tend to fill up. In order to book your exam you will need an ARN.

If you are sitting a course with Heli Theory Australia we will organise the exam bookings as a group and so you do not need to book your exam individually.
